Git Notes
Delete a tag from the remote:
git tag -d 12345
git push origin :refs/tags/12345
Updating an open-source repository from the Internet:
- On the low side, perform a git pull to update the repository.
- Tar the directory containing the repository and move it to the high side.
- Take note of the existing remote repository location by using git remote -v from inside the existing repository directory
- Untar the new archive over any existing archive
- Reset the remote repository using: git remote set-url origin ssh://git@stash.devlan.net:7999/opensource/<repository>.git
- Then push the updated repository to Stash: git push --tags
Using Submodules
Use submodules when using an open-source code that is separate from the rest of the git tree. For example, to add the WolfSSL library use:
git submodule add ssh://git@stash.devlan.net:7999/opensource/wolfssl.git
Then commit it using
git commit -m "Add WolfSSL as a submodule."
To supress git status messages saying that the submodule directory content is untracked, edit the .gitmodules file in the project root (the directory where git init was issued) and enter the following line:
ignore = untracked
under the entry for the submodule. For example:
[submodule "wolfssl"]
path = src/wolfssl
url = ssh://git@stash.devlan.net:7999/opensource/wolfssl.git
ignore = untracked
